Ask a Rev Cycle Expert: OPPS Packaging?

Question:

Under OPPS, are pathology codes with status indicators Q1 and Q2 packaged with procedures listed as J1 and J2 when performed on the same day?

Answer:

Yes, any code assigned to status indicators Q1 STV-Packaged Codes or Q2 T-Packaged Codes may be packaged into the Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC) reimbursement when provided on the same day as a procedure assigned to status indicator J1 Hospital Part B Services Paid Through a Comprehensive APC or J2 Hospital Part B Services That May Be Paid Through a Comprehensive APC. For the most part, any supportive services provided during the same encounter as a J1 or J2 procedure will be packaged into the APC reimbursement.
