Can a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant report 95180?
Answer:
The answer is dependent upon your state’s scope of practice regulations, and whether the nurse practitioner (NP) or physician assistant (PA) is following your facilities' policies, procedures and bylaws. As nonphysician practitioners (NPP) or Qualified Health Professional (QHP), providers who are licensed as an NP or PA are generally recognized as a “practitioner” and may provide services to the level allowed by state law.
When allowed by state law, an NP or PA may report Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) code 95180 Rapid desensitization procedure, each hour (eg, insulin, penicillin, equine serum). Otherwise, the service may be provided by the NP or PA may be able to provide the services under the “incident to” provisions.
